TITLE: Mentor Teacher

 

CLASSIFICATION: Certified

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

SUMMARY: Miami Unified School District No. 40 is looking for certified, talented, energetic, motivated educators to take part in helping us build our culture of academic excellence. Our schools implement TAP™:  The System for Teacher and Student
Advancement developed by the Milken Family Foundation and facilitated by the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET). Under this framework, teachers are offered multiple career paths, compensation competitive with the market, ongoing
applied professional development and performance-based accountability.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as a member of the school-based instructional leadership team.

• Analyze student data to create the school-wide academic achievement plan.

• Plan, organize, and facilitate group meetings during clusters and provide appropriate follow-up, with the Master Teacher's oversight.

• Teach in a team setting with colleagues, demonstrate model lessons, and develop and help implement curriculum.

• Observe and provide peer assistance and coaching toward meeting teachers’ Individual Growth Plan goals.

• Support the Master Teacher in researching and field testing, within the school appropriate strategies that target the identified area of student need

• Participate in all NIET TAP System training and become a Certified TAP Evaluator.

• Evaluate teacher performance by using NIET Teaching and Learning Standards rubrics and conduct follow-up teacher conferences.

• As requested, participate in district, school, and intra-district committees to enhance collaboration, share information, and contribute to the critical work.

• Work on an expanded calendar year with compensation for 5 extra days

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Evidence illustrating instructional excellence

• Minimum of two years of teaching experience

• For teachers currently in TAP schools, recommendation by Principal, Master, and Mentor teacher

• Excellent instructor and communicator with an understanding of how to facilitate growth in adults 

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: A valid Arizona teaching certificate.

 

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years’ successful classroom teaching experience and/or other related experience.

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES: 

Mentor teachers are actively involved in enhancing and supporting the career teachers’ teaching experience. Through the leadership team, they participate in analyzing student data and creating the TAP School Plan. With oversight and support from the master teacher, they help to lead cluster meetings and as a result, mentor teachers provide classroom-based follow-up and extensive feedback on career teachers’ instructional practices. With the input and guidance of the master teacher, mentor teachers plan for instruction in partnership with other mentor teachers and career teachers. Mentor teachers also engage in self- and team-directed professional development activities.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month (plus 5 days), Site Teacher Salary Schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

 

EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of administrative staff.

 

IN ADDITION TO THE TRADITIONAL TEACHER SALARY, THE MASTER TEACHER WILL RECEIVE: (Amount posted in salary area)

• Stipend of $3,000

• Performance-based compensation.
