TITLE: Master Teacher

 

CLASSIFICATION: Certified

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

SUMMARY: Miami Unified School District No. 40 is looking for certified, talented, energetic, motivated educators to take part in helping us build our culture of academic excellence. Our schools implement TAP™: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement, developed by the Milken Family Foundation and facilitated by the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET). Under this framework, teachers are offered multiple career paths, competitive compensation, ongoing applied professional development, and performance-based accountability.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as a member of the school-based instructional leadership team.

• Analyze student data to create the school-wide academic achievement plan.

• Plan, organize, and facilitate group meetings during clusters and provide appropriate follow-up with the support of the Mentor Teacher.

• Teach in a team setting with colleagues, demonstrate model lessons, and develop and help implement curriculum

• Observe and provide peer assistance and coaching toward meeting teachers’ Individual Growth Plan goals.

• Research best practices, develop team goals, identify strategies to target areas of student need, implement action research and field testing, and collect work samples to analyze in cluster meetings.

• Participate in all NIET TAP System training and become a Certified TAP Evaluator.

• Evaluate teacher performance by using NIET Teaching and Learning Standards rubrics and conduct follow-up teacher conferences.

• As requested, participate in district, school and intra-district committees to enhance collaboration, share information and contribute to the critical work.

• Work on an expanded calendar year with compensation for 10 extra days.

 

LEADERSHIP TEAM PARTICIPATION

• Analyze student data to identify student learning goals

• Develop a school academic achievement plan in collaboration with the school leadership team

• Create a school assessment plan in collaboration with the school leadership team

• Monitor goal setting, activities, classroom follow-up and goal attainment for cluster groups and Individual Growth Plans (IGPs)

• Assess teacher evaluation results

 

CLUSTER GROUP PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION

• Develop the long-range cluster plan, weekly cluster group meeting records, and activities with other leadership team members.

• Oversee, lead, co-lead or attend selected cluster meetings weekly.

• Employ the “Five Steps for Effective Learning” to plan, implement, provide appropriate follow-up in the classroom, and evaluate student work aligned to school and cluster goals.

• Collaborate to determine, develop, and implement learning resources.

 

MANAGE TEACHERS INDIVIDUAL GROWTH PLANS (IGPs)

• Oversee groups of teachers to develop instructional and student goals, implement interventions, monitor student progress, and foster teacher reflection.

• Facilitates teacher instructional proficiency with these new strategies through classroom-based follow-up

• Ensures that the progression of teacher skill development is aligned with changing student learning needs.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree in a relevant academic discipline or highly qualified status in a relevant academic discipline.

• Evidence illustrating instructional excellence

• Minimum of two years of teaching experience

• For teachers currently in TAP schools, recommendation by Principal, Master, and Mentor teacher

• Excellent instructor and communicator with an understanding of how to facilitate growth in adults

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: A valid Arizona teaching certificate.

 

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years’ successful classroom teaching experience and/or other related experience.

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES: Master teachers are actively involved in enhancing and supporting the career teachers’ teaching experience. Through the leadership team, they participate in analyzing student data and creating the TAP School Plan. With oversight and support from the principal, they help to lead cluster meetings and as a result, master teachers provide classroom-based follow-up and extensive feedback on career teachers’ instructional practices. With the input and guidance of the principal, master teachers plan for instruction in partnership with mentor teachers and career teachers. Master teachers also engage in self- and team-directed professional development activities.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month (plus 10 days), Site Teacher Salary Schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

 

EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of administrative staff.

 

IN ADDITION TO THE TRADITIONAL TEACHER SALARY, THE MASTER TEACHER WILL RECEIVE: (Amount posted in salary area)

• Stipend of $7,000

• Eligible for Performance-based compensation.
